Created in 1853 by Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, Eau de Cologne Impériale was Guerlain's first Eau de Cologne. Made specifically for Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III, it earned its creator the title of "Perfumer to Her Majesty." The Empress enjoyed exclusive use of this fragrance before allowing it to be commercialized. The label bears the symbol of the empire, with the blazon chosen by Napoleon: the eagle, the imperial crown, and the scepter. It is said that Empress Eugénie used Eau de Cologne Impériale to relieve the migraines she suffered from.
